In 1975 as part of its ongoing recognition program, the Basic Military Training School created what has come to be known as the Blue Rope
awards program. Initially, 77 individuals were selected for this
coveted honor and these individuals were authorized to wear the Blue Rope on their MTI campaign hat to set them apart from all other instructors. Accordingly, these instructors came to be known as "BMT Master Military Training Instructors."
The award is restricted to approximately 10% of the instructor force.
Those selected for this honor earn it through an extremely competitive
process and represent the very best that BMT has to offer. (ATC Master Instructor is a different designation)
